“Imagine you’re preparing a list of today’s top female blues/rock guitarists. If you don’t include Debra Devi, your list is not complete.” says American Blues Scene
Devi plays “dreamy blues-rockers and blistering psychedelic jams” (Relix) centered around her soulful voice and expressive guitar playing. Her 2022 live release Jamification Station Vol. 1 captures her crack band at full throttle. It reached #5 on the Relix/Jambands.com Top 30 Radio Chart, staying in the top 30 for three months. Devi’s cover of Hendrix’s “Crosstown Traffic” was singled out for “her mindblowing soloing.” (Jersey Journal).
Gov’t Mule bassist Jorgen Carlsson and Amfibian drummer John Hummel back Devi on A Zillion Stars Overhead, which Americana Highways calls “exciting and mesmerizing.” Other releases include Devi’s debut album, Get Free, her Wild Little Girl EP, and the singles “Please Mr. Postman” and “Silent Night.”
Devi has licensed multiple songs to film and television, including Tenderness starring Laura Dern and Russell Crowe, and Getting Off starring Brooke Smith and Christine Harnos. Devi opens for artists like Ana Popovic, Jesse Malin, Joan Osborne and Marshall Crenshaw, and plays festival dates from Memphis to Montana, where she taught at the Crown Guitar Festival. She endorses Homestead Amplifiers, which builds custom amps for Warren Haynes, Susan Tedeschi and Jimmy Herring.
Devi is also the author of The Language of the Blues: From Alcorub to Zuzu (foreword by Dr. John), which won the ASCAP Deems Taylor Award, and is blurbed by Bonnie Raitt and Joe Bonamassa.
