Singer, songwriter, producer, and caffeine addled do it yourselfer, Billy Harvey has been playing his own brand of Post Modern Pop for a decade within the friendly confines of Austin, Texas. With the release of Bearsick, his third full-length album, Billy is stepping out of his adoptive home to showcase his musical stylings across the US.
Life on the road comes naturally to Billy. The oldest of two, he was raised by a single mother and lived a vagabond childhood - moving to various cities as frequently as thirteen times in a six year period. The family finally rested in the outskirts of Chicago and Billy's life as a musician started there when his mother bought him his first guitar at age twelve.
At 17, Billy bought an old VW van from his mother for a dollar. Days later he moved to San Francisco to pursue his dream of forming a band. It took him six months to move out of the van, and a few more to join the popular area band, Flame, which signed with Giant Records and released two albums in their six years together.
After Flame's breakup Billy decided to unearth songs that he penned over the years and take a step forward from his supporting role to begin work as a solo artist. He played around the Bay Area for a bit, but decided Austin would be a better venue to focus on his own music.
In his ten years as an Austin resident, Billy has gained credibility, respect and admiration from area musicians and fans. He also established himself as a producer, recording out of his in-home studio with the likes of Trish Murphy, Bob Schneider, Blue Sanders, Steve Poltz, Kacy Crowley, Craig Ross and others.
Rather than waiting to be signed, Billy created his own label and has released three full length albums: Toast (2003), Pie (2005) & Bearsick (2007), as well as an EP: More Happy Than Sad (2002). He has won an International Songwriters Award for Best Rock Song ("Frozen Through") in 2006 and his website has won various media and internet based awards, including the 2005 Interactive Design Award at South By Southwest.
